Jack plate graphics are essential for the customer to be able to navigate and use each product. In this step of the process, a Solidworks file is opened in Adobe Illustrator to be used as the template for laying out graphics and grouping channels.
Product photography, instructions, and feature descriptions were compiled into a user manual included in each product box.
Stand alone pictures and collages were used to create banners for the website, online ads, and printed materials for retailers.
Some items required “detail shots” which are close up photographs to show the texture or pattern of a product. Black or white foam boards were used to eliminate unwanted reflections on surfaces and soft box lights were placed strategically for showing off curves.
This is an example of a close up shot of floor tom drums to show texture and pattern to the customer. This photo was shot in a warehouse under florescent lights which produced an unnatural color. Camera Raw was used to color correct the wood shells and Photoshop was used to remove color from the rims.
This photo is an example of multiple products combined into a “rig” for musicians to get an idea of the various layouts. A background had to be photoshopped in as a result of limited photo space.
Live shots were taken of the PWSL10 light stand to showcase its usefulness during concerts and other situations.
Production for the PW4EX started with isometric sketches and the goal of sleek and stylish design in mind. A trip to Guitar Center to reference competing brands as well as taking inspiration from Apple’s TV box helped move the project in the right direction. Rounded corners as well as a rounded bottom were added for an ergonomic benefit as well as a way to set the PW4EX apart stylistically.
During development products go through numerous revisions before the public sees the completed piece. Having physical prototypes built can be expensive, so illustrations are created as a visual aid.
This vector rendering was created in Illustrator to help with brainstorming, trouble shooting, placement of knobs and screws, but also to have a visual representation of what it will look like for the manufacturer when they build the final product.
When the project is nearing its deadline, final photos will need to be finished up to post on the company’s website for release. In most cases there are still last minute changes that need to be made to the product. In these cases Photoshop is used to manipulate artwork and sometimes the entire tooling blueprint of the item.
Shortly after the release, demonstration videos are created to show customers the features of a new product. Video and audio is captured separately and combined with voice over work in post editing to finalize the video.
In some cases, product photography and transitional editing will be combined with voice over work to call out features if a demonstration video isn’t needed.
A commissioned design created in 2016 for the Bunbury Music Festival at Sawyer Point and Yateman’s cove. National Screen Printing produced each shirt by hand and cured the ink right in front of the customer.
After referencing the Cincinnati Convention Center sign, a few quick drafts of letter placement were made before compositing was done in Photoshop.
